Gold for Aimee at Yorkshire Open - 4th August 2013

Karate Girl Aimee Sell

Aimee Yorkshire Champion in her Kaze Rebel Kata Gi

Karate Girl Aimee Sell travelled to Barnsley to compete at the 6th Yorkshire Karate Open which was held on Sunday 4th August 2013. Aimee had travelled up the day before staying at the local Premier Inn which was just about 1 mile away from the venue, the Barnsley Metrodome Leisure Complex. Having concentrated on training since her exams which were throughout June and not having competed since the Senior European Karate Championships in May, Aimee was keen to finally get to the mat again and put into practice many of the techniques she had been working on.

Aimee was competing at just one event at the competition, the Female Senior Kata event.

In the first round Aimee performed Paiku Kata against her opponent's Gankaku Kata. Aimee had now introduced Paiku into her Kata repertoire for her preparations for the Junior World Championships later this year and was eager to test out her Kata. Aimee secured a 5 flags to 0 win over her opponent which showed that her training has been going well so far.

In the second round, Aimee once again performed a new Kata, this time from the Shotokan stable, Gankaku. This was another Kata had been working on recently and was keen to see how she fared with it. Aimee's opponent performed a good Gojushiho Dai Kata but once again Aimee secured a 5 flags to 0 win.

Now in the semi-final Aimee was back to Shito-Ryu style Katas and performed Annan against her opponent's Gankaku Kata. Aimee won the round 4 flags to 1 to make the final.

The final saw Aimee opt to perform Chatanyara Kushanku as she faced her opponent's Gojushiho Kata. Aimee's hard work in training showed as performed an excellent Kata to secure the win and title with a 5 flags to 0 decision.

Aimee enjoyed the competition, looking good in her Kaze Rebel Kata Gi, and appreciating the feeling of competing over just training. Aimee took the opportunity to try out some of her improved techniques and Katas, especially Gankaku, demonstrating Aimee's  knowledge and understanding of the different styles of Karate and her ability to perfect different styles. Overall it was a good days work.
