Double Gold for Aimee at Slovenian Open Karate Championships

- 18th September 2010

Aimee Sell travelled to Kranj in Slovenia to compete in the 11th Slovenian Open Karate Championships which were held on Saturday 18th September 2010. With the hotel a short hop away from the Airport and the venue approximately one mile away from the venue, this seemed like an ideal trip to gain some extra European competition experience.

The competition was run under full WKF rules which made a refreshing change as this meant WKF compulsory Katas were required to progress through the initial rounds.

Aimee competed in the Female Cadet 14-15 years category and with 18 competitors in the group there were two compulsory Katas required. Aimee received a 1st round bye before being called into action in the 2nd round where she performed Bassai-Dai Kata. Aimee beat her opponent 3 flags to 0 to progress into next round. The 3rd round saw Aimee perform Annan Kata and won the round 2-1. In the 4th round semi-final, Aimee performed Suparinpei Kata won booked her place in the final with a convincing 3-0 win beating her opponent's Empi Kata. The final pitted Aimee against the Slovenian Cadet Squad member who performed Goju Shiho-Sho. Aimee performed Chatanyara Kushanku and won the title with a 3-0 win.

Aimee than had the opportunity to enter the Female Junior 16-17 years Kata event which was taking place after the afternoon's opening ceremony. With 5 judges in this event the bar had been raised with a higher standard competing. Aimee only had 8 competitors in this event and performed Bassai-Dai against her opponent's Jion Kata. Aimee won the round 5 flags to 0. The semi-final round saw Aimee win 5-0 once again as her Suparinpei Kata out-performed her opponents Unsu Kata. The final once again pitted her against a Slovenian National squad member, this time the Junior Female. Aimee performed Chatanyara Kushanku and again secured a 5-0 win to claim the Junior title beating her opponents Unsu Kata.
